[2021 Special Issue Subject 1: Faculty Development and Professional Education]

As teachers are essential resources for education, the quality of teachers affects the effectiveness and equitability of the education system. In recent years, countries in the western world, as well as the neighboring countries like Korea, Japan, and Singapore, have made significant restructuring of their curricula to foster global literacy among students in order to address the challenges of the future, while Taiwan is no exception. This new wave of curriculum reform has not only reshaped the roles and tasks of educators, but has also transformed the identity and culture of educators. In this regard, how can faculty training institutions adjust their curricula and mechanisms in order to cultivate professionalism in faculty education students? How can we enhance the curricular development and educational innovation of teachers to respond to curricular reform? How can we integrate education reform and faculty policies to ensure that every student receives the learning resources and support they need? How can we organize professional communities of teachers to stimulate faculty motivation and leadership, strengthen professional identity and a collaborative culture of faculty collaboration to sustain faculty education? The above issues are worth exploring in depth. In view of this, this special issue focuses on the theme of "Faculty Development and Professional Education" which welcomes contributions from scholars who are interested in this subject with the following issues (but not limited to those listed below):

1. Policies for faculty training in the 21st century
